How Much Does it Cost to Move Long Distance?

It’s challenging to plan for a cross-country transfer. It’s much more challenging to plan a budget because consumers are often met with non-binding projections and hidden costs. We figured you’d appreciate some hard numbers you can count on, so we contacted several long-distance moving companies and compiled all of the data for you. Please continue reading to find out how much it would cost to relocate long distances.

Our Approach

We built an example Move Plan for a typical one-bedroom home with no stairs and 390 cubic feet of furniture and boxes to get real interstate moving rates. Then we hired long-distance movers to provide us with fixed rates for traveling to and from various locations around the country. We received the quotes for regular moving without any additional services like packing, disassembly/assembly, crating, or storage.

Long-Distance Moving Costs

The cost of relocating a one-bedroom apartment across town ranged from $840 to $4460. Prices vary widely depending on where you pick up and drop off. For example, moving from New York to Los Angeles, for example, or vice versa would set you back an average of $2586 or $2863, respectively. Prices can naturally be higher or lower than the average. Keep in mind that dependability and expertise always come at a cost in the moving industry, so low-cost long-distance movers can not be your best option.

Costs Not Included

Moving costs aren’t the only thing you can think about. Long-distance moves have additional costs that aren’t included in the estimate. • Shuttle charge – When moving into (or out of) a dense metropolitan area, the 18-wheeler used for cross-country transportation can be unable to reach your exact spot. A shuttle is used to deliver your belongings to your door in this case.

This service would cost between $250 and $500, depending on the size of the vehicle.

• Storage in Transit (SIT) – When your new home isn’t ready for your belongings to be shipped, or when you need short-term storage during the moving process, you’ll need storage in transit. The majority of movers charge a monthly fee, while others charge bi-weekly.

• Personalized Service

• Guaranteed Delivery Date – If you want your belongings shipped on a particular date rather than under a specific timeline, request a guaranteed delivery date from you furniture movers. Prices range from $300 to $1,500, depending on the amount of inventory, the path, and each mover’s operations’ status. If one mover has less versatility in that area or timeline, they can charge twice as much as the other.

• Insurance – The premiums in our matrix provide a 60-cent-per-pound insurance plan as standard. Spending more on premium tips is a personal choice, but it is strongly recommended. Independently purchased policies will cost about $10 per $1,000 of valued products, with a $250-$500 deductible.

You should start reflecting on the new beginning that awaits you around the country now that you have all the knowledge you need. Have a fantastic movie!
